Yes, it's a milestone. A very teensy milestone by comparison to the page view counts of some of my DA friends, but hey, I worry not.

At about 11.30 last night my page view count clicked over to 1,000. I saw it happen, too - and anyone who's ever excitedly watched the odometer on their car click over to 20,000 (or 123,456 for that matter) and gone "ooh" then hastily corrected their steering to avoid the large oncoming truck they were distracted from would know that it's kind of satisfying. I noticed it sitting on 999, hit the refresh button to see if any new messages had come in, and *click*, 1000.

So to all the visitors to this page that contributed to that, thank you for coming along to have a look at what's here.

While 2008 wasn't the most massively productive year for me photography-wise, the two shoots I participated in yielded some results I'm very proud of, and as I got through those shots and cherry-pick a few more to play with to round out that section of things, I'm looking forward to getting new shoots done this year, and more of them. Some plans are already tentatively afoot :)

In the meantime, I am very grateful for the positive comments and encouragement I've had from some of you. For me, the most fascinating part of the process is discovering whether people like a photo or not (I already know *I* like them :) ) and it's eye-opening seeing which images are the most widely appreciated. It often surprises me.

So, one thousand. It might not sound all that awesome. But I'm rather pleased anyway.

Told you so

See, disorganised! It's been nearly a month and a half since my last submission to DA, and it took a shoot last Friday evening with rikky1, kimothyjane and models sally-ersch & cameron-osborne to get my attention back to Photoshop where it belongs, after being sidetracked this month by a rather more-drawn-out-than-expected audio restoration/remastering job. I never want to hear those three CDs ever again. But I digress.

Being only the second time I've done a shoot of this type, I was rather thrilled to have more lighting available than the Ballarat shoot, and the Alien Bees ringflash is now officially my favourite photographic thing on the planet. The fact that it weighs almost as much as an actual planet is forgiveable given the results.

Big thanks to the unfailingly patient Sally and Cameron, by the way! It was great fun.

Though there'll be images from this shoot turning up here over the coming days (or weeks!) I still have some from the Obsidian Lace shoot to work on and post, so you haven't seen the last of those.

After some feedback from and conversations with a couple of photographer friends, as well as a bit of research, I've decided for the time being to remove the Creative Commons licences from my photos; there's a few grey areas with the CC licence that I would want to clarify before feeling comfortable with using it, however noble the intention of the whole CC concept.

If you do want to make use of my photos, all you need to do is ask. And, of course, tell me what it's for.

The models in my photos already have my permission to make use of the shots for their galleries or portfolios, with attribution of course.

I do wish DeviantArt would make it possible for DA people to put other people's photos of themselves on their DA pages without the site effectively attributing the photo to them (via the "by" line in captions and the filename). Surely I'm not alone on that one?

Finally, thanks to all of you who've been so complimentary in  your comments. It's made my day several times already :)

Hello. Disorganised photographer here.

Since creating my DA account some time last year, my page has sat here looking decidedly imageless as I've procrastinated my way through several episodes of "I'll get to the photos tomorrow" Just ask rikky1 :)

Having been invited along to a photo shoot for Obsidian-Lace last week, though, I suddenly found myself with hundreds of images and more than a few promises to get them online. So here they come, now that I've gotten my head around the DA way of doing things and started to sort through last Friday's photos.

Up until now, my digital photography has mainly been of people in nightclubs, both those that I work in and the ones I visit. I prefer the "observational" style of photography there rather than posed pictures, and that, sadly, is becoming almost impossible to do now that everyone in the room has a digital camera and everyone starts gurning madly towards the lens as soon as it's pointed at them :) Some of the better ones of these from the past four years are likely to appear here in the coming weeks and months.

I'm still, even after thousands of photos, working out exactly what my "thing" is photographically. I suspect it's got a lot to do with capturing moods. Mood journalism, if you like... photos that illustrate not just a person or persons, but also of the feel of the environment they're in and, in turn, what that environment does to them. I'm not a fan of taking "normal" photos, and I love taking technical imperfection (or in some cases, as with last Friday, operator error :) )and using it to my advantage.

So, hello. Any and all comments are always very welcome.
